Legend:
Data have been derived from the Reference Sequence of the DMD-gene. Exon number: numbering of exons is according to Roberts et al. (1993). Exon size (bp): size of exon in base pairs. Intron size (bp): size of intron in base pairs. 5' cDNA position: first base of the exon (according to the DMD coding DNA Reference Sequence, counting the A of the ATG translation initiation codon as nucleotide 1). Splice after: splicing occurs in between of two coding triplets (=0), after the first (1) or after the second (2) base of a triplet. RE-site: restriction enzyme recognition sequence in the exon with the most 5' nucleotide at the position indicated. B = BamHI, Bg = BglII, E = EcoRI, H = HindIII, P = PstI, S = SacII (*=polymorphic site). HindIII fragment, BglII, EcoRI, PstI: length of restriction fragment for the respective enzyme containing the exon. Sizes are given in base pairs, / = polymorphic variants, (n) = fragment hardly or not detectable. cDNA probe: cDNA probe which can be used to detect the exon on a Southern blot.
1polymorphic HindIII-fragment 5.2 or 5.3 kb (unknown if exon 26 or 27, den Dunnen [1989], Hu [1990], Lindor [1993] 4/19). 2polymorphic BglII 6.5/2.9 kb and 7.5/8.3 HindIII-fragments and possibly 4.8/8.5 kb PstI-fragment (exons 8 and 9, Prior [1992] 0.33 African-Americans (0.005 Caucasian), Lindor [1993] 10/21 Afriacan-Americans). 3polymorphic 9.4/6 kb PstI-fragment exons 10+11 (Lindor [1993] 1/19 Afriacan-Americans). 4polymorphic 8.5/15 kb PstI-fragment exon 12 (Lindor [1993] 1/19 Afriacan-Americans). 5polymorphic 11.8/14 kb PstI-fragment exons 38+39 (Lindor [1993] 6/19 African-Americans). 6polymorphic 6.8/5.7 kb TaqI-fragment exon 51 (Walker [1992] 7/125 (USA).
